About me
I'm Indira Katan, a seasoned therapist with over a decade of experience in guiding individuals of all ages through their unique journeys of healing.
My theoretical framework is Relational Neuroscience, an interdisciplinary field that studies how our brains develop and thrive in the context of relationships. This field applies the latest findings in neuroscience to therapeutic interventions, enhancing the effectiveness of therapy. I use an integrative approach, which means that I work with each person and family to select the methods that best fit. I incorporate EMDR as well as talk therapy, mindfulness, and expressive therapies such as sand tray, play therapy, art, collage, and writing.
I have worked in many different settings and with people in diverse situations. Before I was a therapist, I was a public middle school teacher and also worked in several types of social work jobs. I have worked in clinics, middle and high schools, preschools, homeless family shelters, crisis shelters, and in people’s homes. I have worked in big cities, small towns, and medium places like Santa Barbara. My experiences have taught me about meeting folks where they are and considering their personal and social histories such as intergenerational trauma, race and ethnicity, and socio-economics.
My commitment is to provide a comprehensive and holistic space for growth and resilience to support you in overcoming past hurts and traumas. We can address current symptoms like anxiety and depression, and support you to create loving and lasting relationships. Let's embark on a transformative journey together.
